Today was our day trip to Buchenwald, a Nazi concentration camp just outside of Weimar, Germany. It's really hard to describe what it was like being ther, except for that it was really intense and just unbelievable, that such horrible things had happened there. We saw the crematorium, the officers' barracks, the front gate, and although the barracks weren't there anymore, there were the imprints of them. Next to some of the imprints were memorials for people from those blocks who had died. It was just... wow, like I said, hard to imagine the terrible things that had happened, but at the same time it was all very real.
After we finished at Buchenwald, we walked around in Weimar and got ice cream. Tomorrow we head out on our 5 day tour of Germany- we're going to Strasbourg, France. Of note: after this post, my posting will probably be a little more erratic since I'll have wireless on 2 of the 4 nights (I think), and won't be at the computer much.
